A skid-mounted Optimarin Ballast system
Optimarin will supply two more Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBSs) to Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in the US in an identical contract to one it announced last November. In a statement today (6 February) the Norwegian manufacturer said that order enquiries had gone “through the roof” since securing USCG type-approval in December.
Both systems in this order will be fitted in a 155,000 bbl clean products barge, due for delivery in August 2018.
In an email last week, before this order was announced, Optimarin’s chief executive Tore Andersen told BWTT that, although it had seen a big increase in enquiries, “we are not so far drowning in orders.” Following today’s announced contract, however, he reported in the statement that “our order pipeline is developing at a rate that has surprised even us.” He also emphasised the importance of securing repeat orders, which he said are “one of the best endorsements any supplier can have.” He expects this year to be its most successful ever and to exceed last year’s record, when it won contracts for more than 120 OBSs.
