Doosan Infracore to Jointly Develop LNG Engines for Small Vessels

Doosan Infracore

Doosan Infracore signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on their cooperation for the development of LNG engines for small vessels with KOGAS.

Dosan Infracore announced on March 28 that the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on their cooperation for the development of LNG engines for small vessels with KOGAS and Samjin Yard.

This MOU was concluded with a recent increase in demand for converting small domestic ships with diesel engines to LNG-powered ships, which are environment-friendly vessels, due to the emission of pollutants such as fine dust and SO2.

The three companies including Doosan Infracore are expected to contribute to the reduction of pollutants, greenhouse gas emissions and the new growth of the Korean shipbuilding and offshore engineering industry through the conversion of fuels for ships.

“The development of LNG engines for marine vessels will be an important turning point for eco-friendly conversion of the domestic small-sized marine market operated solely by diesel engines,” said Yoo Joon-ho, head and vice president of the Engine Business Unit at Doosan Infracore. “We are anticipating that we will be able to export LNG engines for vessels in the future.”
